2nd Annual Literacy Swap=18 New Literacy Centers!!!!

This week I had the privilege to host our 2nd Annual Literacy Swap! I was so excited and it really did feel like Christmas! So....what is a literacy swap? Each person makes their center/game 17 times and then when we leave we all have 17 new COMPLETE centers!!! **If you have any questions about the games feel free to leave a comment and I will explain the game in more detail**

All of these word works sorts and items were completely prepared!
I can NOT wait to use them in my word work center!

Have you seen  this on Pinterest? I have...I even pinned it! NOW I have it!!! All I have to do is add the words I want my little ones to work on!

This game is so cute and I know my students will love it! This will be a great addition to the vowel sorts when we start working on them..... I also love it a little bit extra because she made it into a lid game and we all know how much I love lids!!!!

This snake game as already been tested and APPROVED by my 3 year old! He loved that he could look for the snakes in grass! Do you see how she wrote the sight words on the snakes? AND she provided us with 2 different levels....seriously HOW cute is this game and MY little man!

We love tong games. They are so great for fine motor and my students love them.
With these cute little tongs I know this game will be a hit!

Syllables can be a little tricky so the more practice the better!

This fishing game came complete with POND, FISHING POLE AND FISH! How much fun will my students have with this...oh and this was tested and approved by little guy too!

I love the idea of my students up and moving during centers. They will love this sort game but really this golf game could used for anything that has 2 different ways to sort. It is a little hard to see but she glued 2 cans together with clothes pins on top to show where they have to put the ball when they pick a card.

Another item that I have pinned and never made were these paint bags! NOW I have them TOOO! Ohhhh and the hands belong to a teacher that was a little rough trying out her new center...she ripped the bag!!!

This teacher is the only one who does not work in my county!
We met through blogging! I love the beginning sound space sort!

CHECK out this...haha...I crack myself up! I love that she used vinyl to die cut the letters for the checkers. They stick on great and I can't wait to use this!

Guess who sight words!!!! WHAT......HOW much fun will this be? Does your words have a "t" etc....every teacher quickly opened this box and  was excited to try this out!

This is my friend Karen from Mrs. Stamp's Kindergarten
and she made the cutest little ice creams to sort with the most adorable monkey plates!

This is me and my Beginning, Middle and Ending buses....these are available in my TPT store here and they are currently on SALE!!! I also made the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Trees with vinyl. Each person got a set of upper case letters to match up!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU for another amazzzzzzzing swap! I am already planning the next one....MATH GAMES Anyone?!?!

DOuNOT miss this great FREE printable!

A few weeks ago I got together with 15 of my county's amazing kindergarten and first grade teachers including Karen Stamp from

We did a lid challenge and center swap! Everyone had to make an activity or game out of lids and they had to make 15 of each of them so we could all leave the session with 15 new ideas!!!

Last week, Leilani shared her President's Day lid game! ( how cute was that?)!! This week I am sharing my friend and colleagues Brittany's super cute donut game! ( the title makes more sense)

This donut number center is really 3 number activities in one. The first one is number word making with the number. The second activity is number order 1-30 and the last one is filling in the missing numbers.

To make this number center all you need is this printable and 30 lids. We used soda bottle lids or white water bottle lids!  You can grab this printable for free in my TPT store here!

Are you collecting lids yet?!? I think you should be if you are not because over the next few weeks I am going to share with you about 15 more things you can do with lids for FREE or almost free!

Who Wants to WIN???? President's Day and A little Pete the Cat from Leilani's Guest Blog

I love a great give away....simply follow this blog, follow Leilani's TPT store and leave a comment. We will  then randomly select 3 winners and the PRESIDENT GAME AND PETE RETELLING BRACELET WILL BE YOURS! ALL YOURS!!!!

Hi! I am Leilani and I have gotten the pleasure to work with Kelly and attend her S.H.A.R.E. (Staff Have Awesome Resources for Each Other)  class. Kelly and Karen Stamp recently hosted a class at the beginning of the month. The theme of the class was to create a "fun" educational game using any type of lids. It was AMAZING!! It was wonderful to hang out with a bunch of creative teachers who are willing to go the extra miles to help their students learn in ways that they will enjoy over and over. Who would of thought that you could create so many educational games using a simple lid of any kind. We left our exchange with 18 new games made from lids....and many of them will be posted here in the next few weeks...so make sure you check back!

I love making teaching fun for educators and learning fun for students  The game that I created was a George Washington and Abraham Lincoln lid game.  This is what the game board looks like. I put one of five facts about each president in each star.

This is what it looks like. (sorry it's sideways)
The game pieces are simple. I just made circle little Lincolns and Washington's. I laminated mine, cut them out, and hot glued them on water bottle lids.

The object of the game is to match the President with their fact. (example: "Father of our Country" George Washington) Ta-da..see how simple this is to make. The possibilities are endless!!

I also have a Teachers Pay Teachers store and have posted this game on it. Feel free to come and visit. Not only do I have this game but I have also made story retelling bracelets. My recent story retelling bracelet is Pete the Cat I love my White Shoes by James Dean and Eric Litwin. Here is a peek at my Pete the Cat Story bracelet.:

I wanted a cute and fun way for the kids to retell the stories we read in class so I created these. I also have done other stories. If are you interested please feel free to drop by my Teachers Pay Teachers storehttp://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Browse/Search:leilani+sayasithsena

Well, I hope you enjoyed my post. I'd like to thank Kelly for letting me be a guest on her blog.
Remember, teachers who love teaching, teach children to love learning. Have a wonderful day!

New and AMAZING lid Idea!

I love stamps during my literacy center but they quickly get messy or get lost! SOOO I made FREE stamps for each center! They are simple to make and my students prefer them the Lakeshore ones that I already had!

Step 1: Collect lids! I prefer med size Gatorade or these lids like below
Step 2: Label the top side of the lid. I used my cricut and vinyl to die cut the letters but I could have done the same thing with a sharpie.

Step 3: precut foam letters. (I know you already have some in your classroom) Make sure you glue it on backwards so that when it is stamped it will be correct.

This is the same thing made out of Gatorade lids!

Then I got this cheap tool box at Target for 7 dollars to organize my stamps. The students can pull out the letters they need to stamp their sight words and they know where to put them back. I also die cut the letters for the front of the drawer with my cricut and vinyl!

Spooky House ABC lid game with FREE Download

This week I got the cutest email from a friend at a nearby school. She had made a new lid game and wanted to share! And with her permission I am sharing it with you!!!!!!

I then took my love of lids and my love of my Cricut and made these cute lids! You can easily just write the letters with a sharpie!

I made my game lower to upper case match up and I am going to make a word match up for my readers!

For your free copy click HERE for the ABC one or HERE for a blank one you can program yourself!

Enjoy!!!!

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Letter Game

SO I made ANOTHER lid game!!! Are you shocked?! Nope me neither! I AM in LOVE with this one! It turned out so cute! I used my Cricut to die cut the cute Palm Trees. Then I found these letters in the dollar spot at Target. They are SOOOO cute but you can use any letters you have or just use cute markers!

Then I placed the same letter on the trees that are on the lids. If you look closely you can see in this picture that the letter D is not matched up yet!  I divided the alphabet into 2 sheets of 12 by 12 paper so that there were not too many letters on one page..

AND I had a sheet of palm trees left over so I made the Chicka Chicka 123!~ How stinkin cute is this...My Friend next door...came into my room...saw this game and sat down and MADE it! I  hope you love it as much as we do!

If you do not have cricut...you can CLICK ON THE PICTURE BELOW FOR YOUR VERY OWN PALM TREE PRINT OUT!

Are you saving lids yet?  I will post more lid games soon! I love FREE resources!

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.....How Cute Will this Game be in YOUR room?

This super cute tray is from the Dollar Tree (I know what you are thinking... I live there....NOOO..ok well Maybe!! ) This game SCREAMS Chicka Chicka Boom Boom to me! I knew in the store that it was meant to be an alphabet game :)

Then I took my Cricut and I die cut letters to put on the tray and on matching letters on the  clear water bottle lids! (are you saving lids yet?)

The Students can match the alphabet during the beginning of the school year and if a piece gets lost they are FREE to replace!!!!

The Trays come in blue and pink!!!! How CUTE!!! And Cheap!

More Lid Games

Each year I put a LARGE empty container in the front of my room! My students bring in lids and then based on the lids they bring me I create games for my classroom. Lids are FREE and easy for little hands to manipulate them.

Before I create games with the lids, we have a math lesson with them. We count them, sort them, graph, compare, ect....
Gumball Game: 1 piece of 12 x 12 paper, lamination scraps, alphabet photos sticker (mine are from Lakeshore) and the alphabet letters written on lids! To make the game a little easier I matched the paper gumball to the color of the lid. (some kids did not need to know this trick for helping them with beginning sounds)

Close up of Gameball game!

So you know the trash that is left after you pass out stickers????? NOW you have a great way to use that too! I just save that and then I used lids for the students to build sight words!!!! FREE again!!!

This is a SIMPLE game to make.....all you need is this printout and some lids!!! I made my version an upper case to lower case match up but you could do many different things with this games (lower to lower, picture to lower, and upper to lower) Have fun!You can GRAB this printable by clicking on the picture!

This game is made out of MILK lids but you can use any lids that are little bit larger...I made this for all of the blends that do in Kindergarten!!!! So cute and so easy! Grap the printable by clicking on the picture!

This literacy activity is made out of soda lids. I did all of the lifecycles that we study in Kindergarten and I matched the text color to the color of the lids just in case they got mixed up. The lid serves the purpose as the period at the end of the sentence and the studetns read the sentence and place the correct picture at the end of the sentence!!!!

You can get these suppppppper cute lifecycle stickers on Oriental Trading and many other sticker sites. They come in packs of 100 so you can share with all of your friends.

This game is called OREO WORDS! I had a large amount of brown lids so I made this template to go with all of the 2 letters words that I was working on! You can grab this printable by clicking on the PICTURE!

This game is made out of water bottle lids (the clear ones) I matched the color of the sharpie to the color of the paper. Then I made lots of different versions of "What's Missing" You can grab this printable by clicking on the PICTURE!

This game is made of clear lids (like pringles lids)! All I did was write the words on the lids and then cut the lid into puzzles. I made each cute a little different so that they would only fit with the correct other half!
